There is a difference between losing weight and transforming your body. Weight loss transformation takes more than just making adjustments to your lifestyle. You literally have to become another person. The habits that you have right now are the reason you have the body you have. The body that you want is owned by a different person. You have to reform your habits, becoming a new person, to achieve your new body. Here are five habits that are necessary for transformation.

1. Track Your Food

Calorie awareness is a powerful tool. You do not have to count calories to lose weight but it is incredibly helpful. When I first started tracking food, it was a big wake up call. I had no clue how much I was eating. We sometimes go on autopilot when we eat and mindlessly consume. That is not a good way to live. You need to know how much food you are eating or not eating. Tracking food also keeps you honest. If you only track food when you are eating healthy, then you are doing a disservice to yourself. Track everything, even the unhealthy stuff, so you can see how it affects your body.

2. Change Your Worst Eating Habit First

Once you are aware of your caloric intake, you can get a better picture of your eating habits. Pick the habit that is the biggest block to losing weight and change it. For example, my biggest bad habit was eating too much. I realized my portion sizes were too big. I began to consciously choose not to eat seconds or thirds. Once I was able to break that habit, I could move on to the next one. Do not try to fix everything at once. Take one bad habit at a time, starting with the biggest one first and focus on that. Do not worry about any other bad habits until this one is fixed.

3. Daily Physical Activity

This does not mean going to the gym every day. This is smaller, fun, everyday activities that you can do at home, at work or when you are out and about. Make it a habit to be active every day in small ways. This includes walking, riding a bike, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, chasing ducks at a pond, or following your kids around as they play. By doing these things, you will be getting your heart rate up every single day. All the calories burned from these smaller activities add up to big changes in fat loss.

4. Research. Research. Research!

Knowledge is power. You need to become a weight loss expert. Read about how to lose weight. Learn about different dieting strategies and exercise. Try new things and keep what works for you and forget what does not work. It is very important to do the groundwork. This knowledge will help you become the best person you can be.

5. Work hardest on your environment.

There are a lot of things that we do not have control over. Genetics, our schedules, weather, and other people are all things that we cannot control. Life happens and you have to roll with it. However, we can take control in certain areas. We have control over our eating environment. Take a look at the food you keep in your house. Do not keep a cupboard full of unhealthy snacks. If you want to change your relationship with food, then you need to keep healthy, nutrient-rich foods on hand at all times. Yes, you can treat yourself sometimes, but you should do that outside of your home. Make your house a safe place where you are not tempted to eat unhealthy foods.
